Swim with the Manatees

Mermaid Experience

What should I bring for my experience?
For each experience, it’s best to bring:
- Swim gear (swimsuit, rash guard, etc.)
- A towel
- Sunscreen (water-resistant recommended)
- Any personal items like water shoes or a hat
Are there age restrictions for the activities?
- Swim with the Manatees: All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Mermaid Experience: Participants must be at least 8 years old.
- Discover Scuba: The minimum age is 10 years old.
- Rainbow River Dive: Participants must be certified divers or have completed the Discover Scuba program.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Basic swimming skills are beneficial, particularly for scuba diving and the Mermaid Experience. If you’re unsure about your swimming abilities, please reach out to discuss your comfort level.
How many participants are in each group?
We keep our group sizes small to ensure personalized attention:
- Manatee swims and scuba diving tours are typically limited to 4 participants.
- Mermaid Experiences have a maximum of 6 participants.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations made at least 48 hours in advance will receive a full refund. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the scheduled experience may incur a fee or forfeit the deposit, depending on the circumstances.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety is our top priority. If weather conditions are unsafe, we may need to reschedule your experience. You will be notified as early as possible, and you’ll have the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
Will I receive equipment for my activities?
Yes, all necessary equipment for swimming, diving, and the Mermaid Experience will be provided (excluding personal swim gear like swimsuits). This includes wetsuits, fins, and any other gear needed for your chosen activity.
Can I take photos during the activities?
Yes, you are welcome to bring a waterproof camera or smartphone! For the Mermaid Experience, we also provide photo and video options to capture your magical moments.
How much does each experience cost?
Swimming with the manatees starts at $75 per person for about 3 hours. The Mermaid Experience is $125 per person for an hour. Discover Scuba is $199 per person, and that covers your gear and the e-learning. The Rainbow River drift dive is $199 for the first diver and $99 for each diver after that.
Can I try scuba diving if I've never done it before?
Yes. Discover Scuba is made for people with no scuba training at all. It takes 2 to 2.5 hours in the waters of Hunter Springs, it's open to anyone 10 or older, and the $199 includes your gear and the e-learning. Bring a swimsuit and a towel.
Do you take certified divers on a drift dive?
Yes, on the Rainbow River. It's a drift dive of about 2 to 3 hours for certified divers and for anyone who has finished Discover Scuba. It's $199 for the first diver and $99 for each additional diver, so it costs less when you bring your dive buddies. Equipment rental is available if you need it.
Can I scuba dive with the manatees?
No, the manatee swim is a snorkel swim. You float at the surface in a wetsuit with snorkel gear, because the bubbles from scuba gear can make manatees leave. If you'd like to scuba dive too, Discover Scuba at Hunter Springs is the way to start.
Can I touch a manatee?
No. The rule here is "look, but don't touch." In all of Kings Bay, including Three Sisters Springs, federal rules prohibit chasing a manatee, touching one that is resting or feeding, cornering it, riding or holding it, separating a mother and calf, or feeding it. The tour is guided and puts safety and conservation first, and our manatee page lists the rules in full.
Can I swim with manatees in winter?
Yes. Manatee swims run year-round by appointment. Keep in mind that from November 15 through March 31, seven manatee sanctuaries in Kings Bay are closed to everyone, swimmers included.
What is the Mermaid Experience?
You swim in a mermaid tail while Laura teaches you the basic skills to move in it. It lasts an hour, it's usually held at Hunter Springs, it's for ages 8 and up, and it's $125 per person with all the equipment provided. We also offer photos and video so you can keep the moment.
